Police Officer Standards and Training Commission

DPAC Assessor

The Delaware Police Accreditation Commission (DPAC) trains and utilizes assessors from across Delaware to assist with the accreditation process. The assessors are employed by Delaware police departments and voluntarily assist DPAC.

Teams of three (3) assessors travel across the state to evaluate police departments for initial and re-accreditation. Their primary responsibility is to review every police department to ensure compliance with over a hundred established standards. This includes examining written policies and verifying supporting documentation as proof of compliance.

Assessors also conduct on-site reviews, which includes evidence preservation, temporary detention areas and assessing all areas within the department. During the visit, they ensure that essential procedures, practices, and physical standards meet accreditation requirements. The accreditation assessment process plays a vital role in promoting professionalism, accountability, and operational excellence within Delaware’s law enforcement agencies.
