Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) approved training must be instructed by a POST Certified Instructor, which is predominantly provided through one of the four active police academies delivered by the: Delaware State Police, New Castle County Police Department, Wilmington Police Department, and the Dover Police Department.

Each applicant for the position of police officer in the State of Delaware must satisfactorily complete the Police Basic Training Course as prescribed in 11 Del.C. ยง8405(a) prior to being given or accepting an appointment as a police officer. Each applicant must meet the PT standards of the academy to which they will be attending.

Trainings reviewed and approved by International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) are recognized as POST-approved. To submit a training course that does not have IADLEST approval for POST approval, please email your biography, syllabus, presentation, and any other relevant course materials to POST@delaware.gov for review.
